POSITION DETAILS

Facilities Director: Oversees the physical operation of the Holyrood Community Hall and Rink Building. The league is currently moving to a model of paid facility management, so the Facility Director will have a significantly different role from past years. They will act as the board’s liaison with our paid facility management contractor, who will be responsible for ongoing maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to our buildings. Because of the reduction in duties, the Facility Director will also oversee maintenance and upgrades to the league’s outdoor assets, including our skating rink, parking lot, and the grounds immediately surrounding our buildings (our “licensed area”).  Estimated time commitment:  three hours per week, plus approximately four hours per month to prepare for and attend monthly board meetings.

Sports Director:  Oversees the sports and fitness programs offered by the league, including the Community Soccer program, skating & hockey, fitness classes, and community swim program. Helps recruit program coordinators, and acts as the board’s liaison with them. Organizes new sports and fitness classes according to community needs. Applying for grants, arranging registration and payment, keeping records, and organizing facility access are among the responsibilities of this position.

Casino Coordinator: Oversees the paperwork and volunteers for our fundraising casino. This can include applying for a gaming license, grants, and permits to run bingos, casinos, or 50/50 draws. Prepares written reports and liaises with the AGLC. Hires the independent casino advisors, schedules volunteers for all casino spots, and notifies volunteers of their shift information.

Playgroup Coordinator: Oversees the weekly Community Caregiver Connection Playgroup, out of space rented from the First Church of God. Creates a welcoming, healthy and inclusive environment for parents of children under 5 and their little ones to meet, play and connect! Opportunity exists within this position for scheduling informative or entertaining guests to enhance/educate parents or offer unique learning opportunities for the kids.

Committee Members: We have 2 active and welcoming committees that some of our residents may be interested in participating with.

  • Our Community Garden Committee is committed to growing Holyrood – join the committee and help plan our new community garden! If you like to get your hands dirty, this group is for you! Anyone with a love of gardening, permaculture, water conservation, arborism, native plants or even beneficial bugs – WOW! We would love to include you.
  • Our Holyrood Development Committee continues to deliver amazing results in consultation with neighbourhood partners expanding our community to new heights. Join their team and learn a ton about wholistinc community growth and sustainibility, and be heard!

Communications Director: Takes on regular posting to the Community League social media, website, and email newsletter, prepares articles and images for the Southeast Voice Monthly newspaper, and occasionally designs posters, postcards, and flyers. Adds messages to the corner sign. This position requires communication and design skills, which are used to promote community events, programs, civics, committees, sports, and fitness classes. Works closely with the Program, Sports, and Events Directors to execute communication plans. Promotes and shares content to create a welcoming and inclusive neighbourhood and to share Holyrood with the rest of the city!
